LAW VS LEGALISM

The conversation surrounding the Law of God has been widely misunderstood. Some believe the Law was completely removed after Christ. Others fall into legalism, believing strict rule-keeping earns righteousness. Both positions miss what Scripture actually teaches. In this teaching we establish the difference between Law and legalism and explain the true purpose of the Law within God’s design. We examine how the Law reveals God’s character, exposes human sinfulness, and ultimately points to the need for a Redeemer. This lesson also introduces the three categories of biblical law: • Moral Law • Ceremonial Law • Civil Law These distinctions are critical for understanding what Christ fulfilled, what governed ancient Israel as a nation, and what still reflects the unchanging character of God. Before forming conclusions about obedience, grace, or righteousness, these definitions must be understood. In the next teaching, we will break down moral law, ceremonial law, and civil law in detail, examining what each category governed and why these distinctions matter. Govern yourself accordingly. Attend to it carefully.
