DISCIPLINE VS FORMATION
In this teaching, we break down the difference between discipline and formation according to Scripture.
Many people hear the word discipline and immediately think punishment, correction, or getting in trouble. Others hear the word formation and think growth, process, or becoming. But what happens when both words are left undefined? We begin to confuse outward behavior with inward transformation, correction with rejection, and routine with true spiritual shaping.
This teaching examines what discipline actually is, what formation actually is, where people misunderstand both, and why the distinction matters. We walk through how biblical discipline is not mere punishment or vengeance, but God’s corrective and purposeful training of those He loves. We also break down how biblical formation is God’s progressive work of shaping a person into the likeness of Christ through training, renewal, pruning, abiding, putting off the old man, and being reworked according to His design.
This teaching also addresses the difference between compliance and renewal, the danger of outward order without inward change, how Jesus formed disciples through governed process rather than information alone, and why what you repeatedly yield to will shape you.
If you have ever mistaken loving correction for rejection, confused behavior management with transformation, or used the language of growth without understanding what God actually uses to shape a person, this teaching is for you.
