WORDS ARE CHOSEN NOT CASUAL

In this teaching, we examine an often overlooked reality of Scripture: words are chosen, not casual.

The Bible is not careless with language. Every term is intentional and designed to produce a specific posture in the reader. When a word is misunderstood, the meaning of the instruction becomes distorted.

Many believers read Scripture quickly, assuming the words mean what modern culture says they mean. But Scripture frequently uses legal, governmental, relational, agricultural, and military language that carries deeper meaning than surface reading reveals.

In this teaching, we explore how specific words shape interpretation and why slowing down to understand definitions is essential for spiritual formation.

Topics covered include:

• How words create posture in the reader
• Why terms like “wages” reveal legal structure in Scripture
• The difference between reading Scripture and attending to it
• Why misunderstanding definitions leads to misapplication
• How studying root words and context deepens understanding

This teaching encourages believers to move beyond casual reading and begin engaging Scripture with intentional attention, seeking not just to read the Word but to understand and internalize it.

When definitions are clear, interpretation becomes stable and the instruction of Scripture can properly govern the life of the believer.
